New Start:
Nutrition—5 servings of fruit or vegetables daily. Consider a vegetarian diet.
Exercise & Entertainment--- exercise daily; entertainment as appropriate
Water--- refers to drinking enough and also to regular (but not excessive) washing
Sunshine--- helps bone strength as it enables vitamin D production in skin; helps with mood; just avoid getting burned
Temperance--- do not smoke, and if you drink, do so moderately. Temperance involves moderation in all areas of life. This includes making room for intimacy while avoiding inappropriate relationships and sexually transmitted diseases.
Air (fresh air) and Accident Prevention--- given a choice between living in air polluted areas or clean ones, choose the clean ones. Preventing accidents includes wearing seat belts (safety seats for infants; booster seats for young children); be cautious with electricity, machinery, heights; install and maintain smoke detectors.
Rest--- most adults need 8 hours of sleep per night; children need more. Take one hour off per day and one day off per week.
Trust & Spirituality---- spirituality is obviously understood in many different ways, but one could say with reasonable common ground, that it involves a sense of being connected with a higher power and with each other, and it involves some understanding of morals which guide behavior, (several of which are held in common by widespread religions in diverse parts of the world). Part of connection with others includes intimacy--- the inclusion of which in one’s life is important for optimal health. For many, spirituality also means participating in a project or mission that is greater than what could be done individually.
